Ultra-Efficient DC Charging Station Debuts in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China

On February 7, Jiangsu's first DC charging station based on an energy router was officially launched in the Kunshan Development Zone, Suzhou. The station is equipped with a 10kV/800kW multi-port energy router device developed by WG Energy, along with a 480 kW liquid-cooled supercharging terminal and six 120 kW fast twin charger for electric vehicles. It can simultaneously meet the fast-charging needs of 13 electric vehicles, supporting real-time interaction between vehicles, charging piles, stations, and the grid. This setup ensures plug-and-play functionality for high-power vehicles, offering more efficient and economical charging services for new energy vehicle owners.

Significant Advantages: Reduced Energy Loss, Improved Charging Efficiency

Compared to traditional charging stations, this DC charging station demonstrates significant advantages in charging efficiency, space utilization, and operational costs. Traditional charging stations typically use AC transformers to step down 10 kVac to 380 V AC, which is then converted to DC by the charging pile's built-in converter. This two-stage conversion process from "medium-voltage AC → low-voltage AC → DC" results in a 3%-5% energy loss at each conversion unit.

Gu Hao, Deputy Director of the Marketing Department at State Grid Kunshan Power Supply Company, explained: "This station uses a multi-port energy router system, with a core device of a 10 kV/800 kW multi-port energy router that directly converts 10 kV medium-voltage electricity to 750 V DC, eliminating one stage of energy conversion and allowing the charging pile to directly step down the voltage." This design increases the station's overall operational efficiency to 95%, a 3% improvement over conventional charging stations, while also reducing the required space by approximately 15%.

Energy Router: The "Black Tech" of Intelligent Management

The energy router, also known as a power electronic transformer, acts as a super-intelligent energy channel "manager" within the power grid. Unlike traditional power frequency transformers, the energy router is based on power electronics and intelligent control technologies, enabling high-frequency power conversion and flexible transformation of various voltage levels, capacity levels, and AC/DC power forms.

Resource Savings and Intelligent Management Advantages:

Resource Efficiency: Traditional transformers require large amounts of copper and iron, while the energy router uses silicon to replace copper, reducing reliance on strategic resources.

Intelligent Management: The energy router features a "smart brain" that monitors real-time data such as current and temperature across hundreds of modules, automatically selecting the optimal operating mode. When multiple vehicles charge simultaneously, it intelligently adjusts the charging power to ensure a safe and stable charging process.

Multi-Scenario Applications: Integrated Solar, Storage, and Charging

The multi-port energy router system can also integrate photovoltaic systems, energy storage, frequency converters, and power supplies, reducing conversion stages and significantly improving overall system efficiency. This "DC convergence, integrated conversion and charging" model not only provides an efficient solution for fast and ultra-fast charging stations but also adapts to various scenarios such as solar-storage-charging integration, data centers, and industrial production.

User Experience: Fast Charging, Cost-Effective

Mr. Zhang, a resident of Pengxiyuan, Kunshan, shared: "This charging station is not only affordable but also fast. My car's battery went from 40% to 80% in less than half an hour. It's both cost-effective and efficient, making it my first choice for charging!"

Economic Benefits and Promotion Prospects

Wu Fan, a specialist at the Distribution Network Technology Center of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute, noted: "This model is highly replicable and scalable, providing standardized and intelligent energy management solutions for various fields, helping cities achieve green and low-carbon development goals." Calculations show that if the station achieves a daily charging capacity of 4,800 kWh, it can save approximately 70,000 yuan in electricity costs annually, significantly improving the station's operational efficiency.

On February 11, the State Grid News published a report titled "Jiangsu's First Energy Router-Based DC Charging Station Built in Kunshan: Reducing Energy Loss, Intelligently Adjusting Vehicle Charging Power," further affirming the technological innovation and application prospects of this charging station in the new energy charging sector.

The energy router-based DC charging station in Kunshan, Jiangsu, not only provides more efficient and economical charging services for new energy vehicle owners but also reduces energy loss, improves charging efficiency, and enables intelligent management. Its high replicability and scalability indicate that this model will be widely applied in more fields in the future, contributing to the achievement of green and low-carbon development goals.
