PET technology innovation: cost drops sharply, efficiency leaps forward
Dr. Huang Lang traced the historical evolution and latest progress of power electronic transformers (PET) in his speech. He pointed out that since the concept of electronic transformers was first proposed by McMurray of General Electric in 1968, PET technology has made significant progress after more than half a century of development, with significantly reduced costs, and gradually achieved commercial applications in multiple fields such as optics, storage, charging, and networking.
Based on this foundation, with strong research and development capabilities, we have independently developed a power electronic transformer based on a hybrid three-level economical compact topology technology. This not only reduces costs by more than 50%, but also achieves a maximum efficiency of up to 98.5%, providing more efficient and reliable solutions for scenarios such as AC/DC hybrid distribution networks, flexible interconnection, electric vehicle overcharging, and energy storage.
Pioneering matrix based energy storage system, leading the development of third-generation energy storage
Dr. Huang Lang pointed out that currently, the refined penetration of power electronics is leading the direction of energy storage evolution, and the third-generation energy storage system characterized by package level management, flexible grouping, controllable reconstruction, and active safety is gradually becoming a trend. Adhering to the concept of "safe and efficient use of every kilowatt hour of electricity", our self-developed battery module controller deeply penetrates into the DC side of the battery, achieving module level active management of electrical, thermal, and safety. We use a 3x10S high overload capacity string type PCS or high-efficiency high-density PET based on silicon carbide devices to achieve core network connection. Through self-developed battery module controllers and grid type inverters, we aim to establish an intelligent, flexible, and efficient connection between solar cells and the power grid for solar energy. We are the industry's first matrix energy storage system, ensuring that users can safely and effectively use every kilowatt hour of electricity. Starting from the safety of battery cells and electrical safety, comprehensive safety design and management have been carried out for active safety technologies such as outlier analysis, internal temperature estimation, thermal runaway warning, and active bypass based on EIS for optical energy. The matrix based energy storage system "Easy Cube" E ³ Matrix launched by the company will comprehensively lead the development of third-generation energy storage. Taking the 10kV direct mounted energy storage power station of Wanguo Data Chongqing Soil and Water Data Center as an example, the capacity of the power station is 1.2MW/2.4MWh. The industry's first power electronic transformer (PET) replaces traditional transformers and PCS, achieving high reliability and efficiency of energy storage systems directly connected to the 10kV distribution network of data centers. It uses one SiC based power electronic transformer and seven matrix energy storage cabinets with module level fine management, achieving a charging and discharging depth of 99% and a comprehensive efficiency (including self consumption) of the entire station of 90%.
