WG Energy Attends TÜV Rheinland Forum, Advancing Industrial Standardization for Solid-State Transformers via Multi-Site Practical Verification

Preamble

On May 22, TÜV Rheinland hosted the Advanced Technology Forum on New Energy and Modern Power Systems in Xi’an. Dr. Huang Lang, CTO of WG Energy, attended the closed-door morning session and afternoon roundtable forum on behalf of the company. He engaged in in-depth exchanges with representatives from leading domestic and international enterprises including Vertiv, Delta and Eaton, covering technical trends of power supply for Artificial Intelligence Data Centers (AIDC), the formulation of industrial standards and specifications for Solid-State Transformers (SST), as well as field application practices of such devices.

Addressing Industrial Pain Points to Discuss Standardization of SST

During the morning closed-door session, participating experts analyzed the current challenges plaguing the SST industry, namely the absence of unified product standards, testing specifications and grid interconnection guidelines across the industrial chain. The participants conducted extensive discussions on accelerating the establishment of a full-spectrum standard system covering power electronic components, complete equipment and overall systems.

 

 

Drawing on its large-scale field deployment experience across multiple scenarios, WG Energy shared practical data and insights regarding testing & verification, safety protection and grid interconnection interfaces. The company proposed that industrial standardization shall be formulated based on real-world operational feedback to deliver replicable technical benchmarks for the entire sector. WG Energy pledged to continuously participate in the development of relevant industry standards, and promote the standardized deployment of SSTs in charging stations, distribution networks, energy storage facilities and data centers.

Technological Breakthroughs and Ecosystem Collaboration for AIDC Power Supply

In the afternoon roundtable focused on AI power supplies, Dr. Huang Lang and fellow industry representatives discussed the stringent requirements of AIDC power supply systems for high power density, high efficiency and high reliability. The group also conducted technical deliberations on how SSTs can meet the power supply demands of megawatt-scale computing clusters.

GDS Chongqing SST-Direct-Connect Energy Storage Station at Global Data Center: Validated the adaptability and operational stability of SSTs at edge nodes of computing infrastructure.

 

Netherlands PV-Storage-Charging DC Smart Microgrid Project: Established a replicable benchmark for intelligent DC microgrids across the European market.

 

Charging Station Cluster Project of PetroChina in Kunshan: Four charging stations have been in stable operation for over 900 consecutive days, with a total power delivery of nearly 3 million kWh. Long-term operational data has verified the outstanding reliability and efficiency of SSTs under heavy load conditions.

Xinjiang Tacheng Boiler SST-Direct- Connect Energy Storage: The system maintains stable operation in extreme cold environments, demonstrating robust environmental adaptability.

 

Flexible Interconnection Projects for Distribution Networks in Maoming (Guangdong), Qiannan (Guizhou) and Yinchuan (Ningxia): Delivered mature solutions for flexible power mutual support, source-grid interaction and vehicle-grid integration for power grids.

 

With a comprehensive portfolio of field applications spanning charging, energy storage, distribution networks, overseas microgrids and data center edge nodes, WG Energy demonstrated the full-lifecycle economic benefits, high reliability and operational stability of SSTs. These outcomes address the three core concerns of AIDC clients regarding next-generation power supply technologies.
