Preamble

The 3rd Council Meeting of the Comprehensive Energy Working Committee of China Electrical Equipment Industrial Association, alongside the Forum on Zero-Carbon Park Construction and Sustainable Development, was recently held in Guangzhou. The event gathered industry experts and enterprise representatives to discuss technical pathways and practical implementation of zero-carbon parks. Lu Heng, Solution Director of WG Energy, attended the forum as a guest speaker and delivered a keynote report titled Solid-State Transformer (SST): A New Hub for Green and Low-Carbon Development of AC-DC Integrated Zero-Carbon Parks.

01
Zero-Carbon Parks: Amid Challenges and Opportunities

Driven by the national dual-carbon goals, building a new power system dominated by renewable energy has become a core task for the energy transition. As pivotal nodes of the new power system and major platforms for industrial green upgrading, zero-carbon parks enjoy strong policy and market momentum. Nevertheless, their large-scale deployment still faces multiple technical hurdles:

Volatility of renewable energy: High penetration of intermittent power sources such as photovoltaic and wind power causes fluctuations in grid frequency and voltage.

Load impact and coordination: Rapid growth of diversified high-density loads including AIDC and megawatt-level EV charging stations imposes stringent requirements on distribution networks regarding peak power capacity and response speed.

Deteriorated power quality: Non-linear loads (e.g., power supplies for data centers) generate massive harmonic distortion, which pollutes the grid, triggers transformer overheating, malfunctions of electrical equipment and increases line losses.

Insufficient intelligence of traditional distribution networks: Conventional distribution architectures centered on power-frequency transformers feature single functionality and slow response, making them incapable of enabling intelligent coordination among sources, grids, loads and energy storage systems.

Boasting fast response, bidirectional power flow and multi-port access capabilities, SST perfectly accommodate the complex interactive demands of the source-grid-load-storage integration within zero-carbon parks, emerging as an ideal hub for optimal energy dispatch.

02
SST: The "Electric Energy Router" for Zero-Carbon Parks

In the report, WG Energy pointed out that SST features high-frequency isolation, bidirectional controllability and flexible multi-port access, which can fundamentally reshape the power supply and distribution architecture of zero-carbon parks.

WG Energy’s AC-DC integrated solutions based on SST can establish 800V/750V DC busbars to directly couple photovoltaic power generation, energy storage systems, charging piles and DC loads, drastically cutting power losses caused by repeated AC-DC conversions. Leveraging the intelligent routing capability of SST, the solutions also realize flexible interconnection of distribution areas, peak load shifting and demand response, effectively boosting the consumption rate of green power and overall energy utilization efficiency.

WG Energy Benchmark Projects
Verifying the Feasibility and Replicability of SST

During the forum, WG Energy highlighted three fully operational projects covering industrial heating, park microgrids and high-end commercial villas, fully demonstrating the practical value and replicability of SST technology.

Xinjiang Tacheng Boiler SST-Direct- Connect Energy Storage

This project adopts WG Energy’s SST direct-connected energy storage solution, which realizes DC coupling between photovoltaic power and energy storage systems to supply green power for industrial boilers. The SST equipment maintains stable operation under extreme cold conditions (below -30℃) and high-altitude environments. It substantially reduces carbon emissions from traditional coal-fired heating and provides a viable pathway for the zero-carbon transformation of the industrial sector.

Beijing  Guodian Ruifeng PV-Storage-Charging Zero-Carbon Park Project

The park is equipped with a 1.25MW SST and 385kWh DC energy storage system, connected to rooftop photovoltaic facilities and charging piles to form an All-DC Microgrid Integrating Photovoltaic, Energy Storage and Charging. Acting as an electric energy router, the SST prioritizes on-site consumption of photovoltaic power, stores surplus electricity and realizes peak load shifting. After commissioning, locally generated new energy is fully consumed within the park without power exchange via the 10kV power grid, setting a practical model for parks to achieve near-zero-carbon operation.

Guangdong Guangzhou Zero-Carbon DC Power Distribution Project

For high-end commercial villa communities, WG Energy deploys low-voltage flexible interconnection technology to build an all-DC power distribution network. The SST converts municipal AC power into 750V DC and 375V DC busbars, which directly supply power to DC home appliances, energy storage devices, photovoltaic systems and charging piles via DC power adapters. The solution minimizes losses from multi-stage AC-DC conversion and realizes green, DC-based and intelligent energy consumption for buildings, creating a replicable technical template for zero-carbon buildings.

Conclusion

With the continuous advancement of the dual-carbon strategy, zero-carbon parks have become a key battlefield for global energy transition. WG Energy has developed a comprehensive solution portfolio encompassing SST equipment, energy storage systems, smart energy management platforms and full-lifecycle services, delivering one-stop support including planning, design, delivery and operation & maintenance for zero-carbon park projects.

Moving forward, WG Energy will continue to take SST as its core technological foundation. The company will iterate and scale solutions such as AC-DC hybrid flexible distribution networks, integrated PV-Storage-Flexible power systems, and combined PV-Storage-Charging Systems. WG Energy will join hands with industry partners to build more replicable and promotable zero-carbon park benchmarks, contributing to global green and low-carbon development.
